CROWN POINT — The woman's breathing quickened as she sat on the witness stand and recounted stories of abuse while the man who perpetrated the crimes watched and listened from across the room.

"Can you describe your relationship with Mr. Green?" Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Lanham asked.

"Hell," the woman replied.

The woman, along with another female victim, spoke Tuesday in court at 29-year-old Devonte Green's sentencing hearing about the abuse she suffered during their relationship last year. Lake Criminal Court Judge Natalie Bokota issued a 42-year sentence—the maximum allowed under his plea agreement—to Green after he pleaded guilty in multiple felony cases in which four women, three of whom were former girlfriends, were harmed.
