Jay Collins selected as Florida's next lieutenant governor
Former state Sen. Jay Collins is Florida's new lieutenant governor, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday at a news conference.
The Republican Party of Florida had disclosed the selection early Tuesday morning, and DeSantis made it official later.
The position has been vacant since February. That is when former lieutenant governor Jeanette Nunez left the position to become president of Florida International University.
DeSantis said Collins is "one of the most productive senators we have had in modern Florida history."
