MILWAUKEE — A 39-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi near the Milwaukee Public Market Tuesday, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Police said the semi was attempting to turn at the 400 block on N. Broadway when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street. The driver of the semi remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

"It's terrible. It's awful," student Allison Kruse said. "There was a lot of people standing around. The medics seemed really frantic trying to get him back."

When contacted for comment, Milwaukee Public Market representatives said they had no comment.

The incident remains under investigation, and will be reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney
