PHOENIX — Beef prices have hit record highs, but while that’s great for ranchers, it’s not so great for consumers. The issue, according to those in the industry, is a cattle shortage that could last for years.

Bill Deganahl, a third-generation rancher and president of the Arizona Cattle Growers Association, said he's never seen better prices for his cattle.

"I don't think these cattle have ever been higher," Deganahl said.

"The rancher for years has always taken it in the backside and somebody else has made the money and it gives us a chance to get some of that money back," rancher Mike Ganuscio said.

While ranchers are making good money, they are concerned about the future.
