BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Western Kentucky University’s Big Red Marching Band continues to celebrate its centennial this semester.

“There are 99 other editions of it that came before us, and we get to be the 100th? That’s just spectacular,” said Carter Edwards, new member liaison and section leader of the drum line.

About 250 band members, not even counting the color guard, are working hard to learn the music and moves, as they prepare for more performances in their 100th year. That milestone brings a special theme to their shows this year: past and present.

“We’re doing eras like disco, we’ve got an Elvis in there and some rock ‘n’ roll, so we’re doing some great tunes,” said Associate Director of Bands & Director of Athletic Bands Dr. Matthew McCurry.
