The Ford government is botching how it is rolling out a law intended to speed up mining and other big projects in the province, Sudbury MPP Jamie West says.

“ Bill 5 is creating more chaos and uncertainty at a time when we need unity and confidence in our government,” West, the NDP’s mining critic, said in a release. “The premier (Doug Ford) can do the right thing – repeal this bill, do real consultations, and work with First Nations leaders and rights holders as partners.

“Instead, the government’s focus is on closed-door meetings, opaque processes, and more confusion.”

West was referring to a series of Bill 5 consultation meetings held in private last week with some Indigenous leaders.
