SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- At the Town of Southport's board meeting on Tuesday night, council members voted to extend a ban on solar energy and storage within town limits for six more months.

The board voted to pass that six-month extension on what they call a "Moratorium on Commercial Solar Energy Systems and Commercial Energy Storage Systems."

Council members unanimously agreed on the decision due to the fact that the town of Southport is still working on its comprehensive plan. Town Supervisor Joseph Roman shared that the plan is roughly a quarter of the way complete and that the solar and battery industry plays a significant part in it, as they would be located in the town.
