IRVINE, Calif. — Alontae Taylor missed the New Orleans Saints preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, and he did not participate in Tuesday's practice.
Now we know why: Coach Kellen Moore said Taylor suffered a groin injury late last week in practice, and is expected to be out "a little while" — though he did not indicate whether that meant Taylor was in risk of missing any regular season time.
"Something came up and he had to go into recovery mode," Moore said of Taylor.
Taylor is expected to play a pivotal role in this Saints defense under first-year defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. In the base defense, Taylor is the starting outside corner.
