Marylanders can breathe a sigh of relief after BGE said residents no longer need to conserve electricity.
BGE said equipment failure at one of the state’s largest power plants led to the warning of “widespread power outages.” The utility does not anticipate additional outages.
“I was really glad to see that we actually averted a major problem. We got a lot of scary emails,” said Emily Scarr, senior advisor for the Maryland Public Interest Research Group.
The Brandon Shores power plant experienced an “unplanned disconnection from BGE’s electric system,” blamed on a transmission equipment issue. The ability to bring power into parts of Central Maryland was limited for most of Monday.
“My first reaction as a Baltimorean was, I was nervous. I was glad it wasn’t too hot of a day,” Scarr sai
