NEW YORK — Pete Alonso was finally able to let his guard down and crack a smile as he completed his 360-foot revolution around the bases on Tuesday night at Citi Field.

Throughout the 2025 season, the Mets home run record seemed attainable for Alonso, but it lingered just beyond the horizon. The Mets first baseman entered the season with 226 long balls, having surpassed Mike Piazza late in 2024, and 16 away from tying David Wright and 26 from matching Darryl Strawberry for the all-time lead.

In the midst of the chase, Alonso always championed the success of the Mets over his individual accomplishments.

But in the third inning on Tuesday, Alonso could finally let loose. He cracked a first-pitch fastball from the Braves' Spencer Strider on a clothesline over the right-center field wall
