The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a "ground stop" at Newark Liberty International Airport and airports throughout the region because of thunderstorms.

The FAA is reporting departure delays at Newark Airport of an average of 105 minutes and increasing.

The ground stop is also in effect for JFK and LaGuardia airports in New York City.

"Heavy rainfall and scattered thunderstorms are expected across the state — starting this afternoon and continuing into the night," Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted on Aug. 13. "Please monitor local forecasts and drive carefully during the evening commute. Stay dry, New Jersey!"
