A sold-out Variety Playhouse hosted an evening of Atlanta and Athens musical spirit with The REMakes and Five Eight on Saturday night. The REMakes, led by Geoff Melkonian, who balances his role as CEO of Breadwinner Cafe and fronting the band that was founded in 2009, delivered a passionate tribute to R.E.M. with deep cuts and hits in their 2-hour set. Opening for The REMakes were indie rock veterans Five Eight with their raw, emotionally charged sound. Frontman Mike Mantione and the band’s journey was captured in the documentary movie Weirdo: The Story of Five Eight . Together, both bands offered a night of nostalgia, authenticity, and a celebration of the Atlanta and Athens music scene. Here, check out the scenes photographer Perry Julien captured at the show.
