Baltimore County’s school board voted Tuesday to alter the district’s school calendar after the district agreed to changes with its teachers’ union during negotiations last month.

The deal struck between Baltimore County Public Schools and the Teachers Association of Baltimore County included a proviso giving teachers the day before Thanksgiving as a half remote professional development day and half mental health day, effectively giving them a half-day off. It also said another professional development day would be converted to remote.

That agreement would have made the school year a day longer due to state law requiring 180 school days, said Joelle Bielski, director of the district’s Department of Staff Relations and Employee Performance Management.
