LAWRENCE, Kan. (WDAF) -- Just days before the University of Kansas is set to open a new Booth Memorial Stadium "Gateway District", Lawrence city commissioners on Tuesday were asked to approve a public financing incentive for Phase II of the Gateway District.

The $346 million Gateway District project's second phase will include a hotel, an outdoor event plaza, student housing, and more.

On the east side of the stadium, which hasn't been fully renovated yet, the idea would be to tear it down and connect to a Gateway district with parking, retail and a whole lot more.

KU students are already excited by a nearly $450 million renovation to major portions of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium set to open next weekend.
