Miami-Dade County Vice Chairman Kionne McGhee convened an urgent meeting on Friday with more than 50 community-based organizations (CBOs) to address what nonprofit leaders call a potentially devastating blow in Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s proposed 2026 budget.

The mayor’s $12.9 billion plan, unveiled last month, eliminates the nonprofit grant section entirely, wiping out more than $40 million in grant money for CBOs , including $16.57 million for the CBOs present during Friday’s meeting at Kristi House in Allapattah. The proposal saves another $2 million by eliminating about a dozen positions in the grants office.
