Poteet and Sunnyvale have each been perennial playoff teams in recent years and each are coming off back-to-back district championships and trips to the regional semifinals.

Because the two teams are in different classifications, they do not meet once district play and the playoffs roll around, but their close proximity to one another does give any match a rivalry feel.
