SAULT STE. MARIE — Join in a celebration of the St. Marys River and its importance to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, Aug. 16 during Riverfest.
The popular annual festival started eight years ago as the Ultimate Paddleboard Day, a racing event for kayaks and paddleboards. It has since grown into a community event with various activities on and off the water. Eventually, it outgrew the Ultimate Paddleboard Day name entirely and became Riverfest.
The name is intended to reflect the festival's purpose of celebrating what the river provides for the city and economy.
This year's festivities will be little more mellow than previous years. Riverfest is in a state of transition, as the Chippewa County Community Foundation is now being led by a new executive director and last year's event did not
