Former Florida baseball star Pete Alonso has etched himself into New York Mets lore.
The right-handed slugger hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning off Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider on Tuesday, Aug. 12: his 253rd career home run. The blast by the "Polar Bear" put him ahead of Darryl Strawberry on the all-time franchise list for New York.
Alonso added a second home run, a solo shot, in the bottom of the sixth inning for his 254th career homer.
Alonso, 30, now has 28 home runs on the season in 119 games. He has spent his entire MLB career with the Mets after being drafted in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Alonso, who played three years at Florida
