With all the talk about defunding PBS, because, allegedly, its news programming is one-sided, I just wonder how many critics have watched its programming beyond news. There are so many wonderful shows that are not political and are educational.

So many people have gotten to know international music groups and have become fans because of PBS. Featured bands have been discovered by new generations of fans. There are also shows like “Antiques Roadshow” that make me wonder what some of my things could be worth. The list goes on and on, plus there’s educational shows for children and adults, too.

Another thing I like about public television is that, unlike regular networks, I don't have to see violence and nudity and hear foul language — and neither do young children.
