Temperatures will likely exceed 90 degrees across Massachusetts on Wednesday, with humidity making it feel even warmer, as the intense heat and humidity that have blanketed the region drags on.

The heat will reach its peak in the afternoon, when heat indices, or “feels like” temperatures, could hit 100 in parts of the Bay State like the Connecticut River and Merrimack valleys.

As the day goes on, a cold front will approach the state, bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms in the early to mid-afternoon in southern New England. Models increasingly support thunderstorms as far east as Boston. National Weather Service forecasters say they are most confident in showers and storms west of Worcester.
