South Sudan and Sudan, two nations suffering from war and hunger, desperately need our help, which can save lives. The U.N. World Food Program (WFP) recently did air drops of food into a remote part of the Greater Upper Nile Region of South Sudan. This area of South Sudan is in danger of famine because of food shortages caused by internal conflict between militias.
In South Sudan, there are 7.7 million people facing severe hunger, which is half the population. But sadly, not everyone is receiving aid because of funding shortages.
The WFP warns that, “ Severe funding shortfalls mean WFP can reach just 2.5 million people with regular assistance – only 30 percent of people facing severe hunger -- across the country with emergency food assistance.”
