Since McComb police Sgt. Jason Blake was shot to death last week, the mayor and police chief have said he died in the line of duty, responding to a call for help regarding a potential domestic violence situation.

“I’m sure he was in the realm of his job, according to all I know,” McComb Police Chief Earnest Perry said of Blake’s reason for going to Nicki Wilson’s house on Cole-Thomas Road outside the city.

However, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the case, has not yet been able to verify that. Sheriff’s officials noted that, to their knowledge, Blake did not notify dispatchers or the sheriff’s department, which has jurisdiction in the area where the incident took place, about responding
