OSWEGO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A plan to replace old waterlines proved to be too much for old pipes to handle in the City of Oswego, according to the mayor.
"When the new water line was installed, it caused the old pipes to break," said Mayor Robert A. Corradino.
The mayor explained the waterline replacement comes as part of an $8 million project to fix up various parts of W. 1st St.
"We lost pressure, we lost water," said Corradino."When that happens in a water system, you have to reset everything, and it has to be tested."
After several days, 1700 people remain under a boil water advisory. The mayor hopes to lift the advisory by Aug. 1.
To help out residents, firefighters and police officers continue to hand out water outside the James P. Cullinan Ice Rink until Aug. 13.
