Tropical Storm Erin will likely start to strengthen Aug. 13 and become the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2025 season late Aug. 14 or Aug. 15, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of 5 a.m., the storm was centered roughly 1,400 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. The maximum sustained winds are at 45 mph. Wave swells will begin impacting the northern Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands by this weekend. As the storm approaches the islands, it's possible that it could become a major hurricane with winds above 110 mph.
