SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Girl Scouts are known world-wide for selling their famous cookies.
The sales empower young girls, build confidence and create friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
It all started more than a 100 years ago in the Hostess City.
When you first think of the Girl Scouts, you might imagine your favorite cookie. Well, the scouts didn’t even start selling those commercially until 1934, 22 years after the organization was founded.
“Girl Scouts was founded right here in Savannah in 1912 with just 18 girls. Now it’s grown to a movement,” said Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Chelsea Simpson.
Founded by Juliette Gordon Lowe, she and those other girls all had the same sense of curiosities, and belief they could do anything.
“At the time, social norms had girls
