INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis City-County Council has a new minority leader after the Republican caucus voted to replace the previous one.
Councilor Brian Mowery will now lead the caucus, replacing Michael-Paul Hart.
Mowery represents District 25, in the extreme southeast corner of Marion County, bordering both Hancock and Johnson counties. Hart represents District 20, which covers parts of Cumberland and Beech Grove.
Hart confirmed the change, saying that there has been a lot going on and that the caucus preferred Mowery's approach to addressing the issues.
On Monday, Aug. 11, Hart was still minority leader and delivered the GOP response to the 2026 budget presented by Mayor Joe Hogsett (D-Indianapolis).
