MeckEd, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting public education and student success in Mecklenburg County, will discontinue operations effective Aug. 31, 2025, the organization announced Tuesday.

The decision marks the end of more than three decades of service to young people in the Charlotte area.

Earlier this year, in May, Meck-Ed announced it would lose $600,000 in federal funding, 68% of its budget.

Founded in 1991 through the merger of four existing nonprofits, MeckEd’s mission was to ensure that all young people had the knowledge, skills and experiences to succeed in and out of school. The organization has advocated for public education in Mecklenburg County and provided workforce development and college-access programs to students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).
