The Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Aug. 15, celebrating the opening of the TEK-MAR School and Gloria Liggett Tribal Office, operated by the Northern Chumash Tribal Council .
The event, held from 2 to 6 p.m. at Jalama Ranch, 2191 Tularosa Rd., will include a 3 p.m. ribbon cutting, BBQ dinner, desserts, demonstrations, ranch tours, and live music.
The new facilities mark a milestone for the tribe, which has been a driving force behind the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary. The sanctuary, which is the 17th national marine sanctuary and the sixth off the West Coast — spanning 116 miles of coastline just north of Pismo Beach and south of Gaviota — protects a vast stretch of Central Coast waters rich in cultural and ecological
