Hollywood set design has had a tremendous influence on home interior design for decades.
Looking back all the way to 1939, "Gone With the Wind" sparked a renewed interest in mid-19th-century Victorian furnishings. Suddenly, pre-1900 pieces relegated to the back bedroom or the attic were taking pride of place in the living room. In fact, a version of the rose-painted oil lamp featured in the movie was all the rage. Unfortunately, that lamp actually was not created until after 1870.
