HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Horry County Schools will provide free meals at all its schools this year, despite the federal government’s plan to make cuts that would affect that program.

Kim Johnson, the district’s director of Nutrition Services, said students whose families get SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid help HCS qualify for free meals through the Community Eligibility Provision.

Parents do not need to fill out an application for this. Instead, HCS uses a program that follows USDA guidelines and figures out which students qualify for free meals based on their parents’ monthly income.

This school year, all 55 schools in the district will serve a free, well-balanced breakfast and lunch every day.
