When walking onto The First Academy football practice field in Orlando, there is no sense that there is a cloud hovering over the powerhouse program.

Despite FHSAA sanctions that ban the Royals from participating in the state playoffs and prohibit third-year head coach Jeff Conaway from coaching in games, there is still an air of excitement and optimism.

The positivity isn’t about winning championships, Conaway said. He said he believes he’s been placed at TFA to build young men into adults, and that is the spirit that drives the program.

“We’re definitely not chasing championships. We’re developing champions,” Conaway said. “Our focus is to develop our players into champions spiritually, academically, socially and athletically and that really is our process.
