Graham Fenton, who fronted such British rockabilly bands as the Houseshakers and Matchbox, has died. He was 76.

Fenton died on Aug. 10, according to Vintage Rock . A cause of death was not provided.

Born in 1949, Fenton got his start as the vocalist for the band the Houseshakers in the late 1960s. The group backed Gene Vincent during his European tours and opened for such acts as Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry.

In 1976, Fenton left the Houseshakers, now known as the Hellraisers, and joined the band Matchbox. The group also included Steve Bloomfield, Gordon Scott, Fred Poke, and Jimmy Redhead.

In 1979, Matchbox’s “Rockabilly Rebel” reached number 18 on the U.K. Singles Chart. The band’s other hits include “Midnite Dynamos‚" and a cover of The Crickets’ “When You Ask About Love,” their big
