NORMAL, Ill. – An employee at the Rivian electric vehicle plant in Normal is seeking to unseat a long-time member of Congress.

24-year-old Scott Best has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 16th Congressional District, a seat currently held by Republican Darin LaHood of Dunlap.

In a statement, Best says he wants to overhaul federal labor laws and will push for a $25/hr federal minimum wage, guaranteed paid sick leave, and cut military spending to fund universal health care.

“I’m not going to Washington to climb a ladder or shake hands with CEOs. I’m going to rip out the rot at the core of our government, stop corporate welfare, and put power back in the hands of working Americans,” Best said.
