PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Parma Heights’ Cassidy Theatre presents “Freaky Friday, a New Musical” weekends now through Aug. 24 at the Greenbrier Commons venue in Parma Heights.

“I obviously loved the movie when I was growing up,” said Brenton Cochran, who is co-directing “Freaky Friday” with Jen Sindyla.

Featuring a book by Bridget Carpenter, with music from Tom Kitt and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, “Freaky Friday, a New Musical” is based on the novel by Mary Rodgers that has enjoyed numerous Disney film adaptations over the last half-century.

There’s just something appealing about when an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies.

The heartfelt comedy was updated into a 2018 Disney Channel modern musical, which is what the Cassidy Theatre cast of 35 is bringing to life
