President Donald Trump fired Erika McEntarfer from her role as commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after accusing her, without providing evidence, of doctoring jobs data to hurt him and his administration politically.
McEntarfer was respected by Democrats, Republicans and her colleagues. She was approved by the Senate in January 2024 to serve a four-year term.
But it’s no surprise that Trump fired McEntarfer for reporting nonpartisan numbers. He has a long history of dismissing data and manipulating numbers when they reflect poorly on him, and demanding that his reality become our reality.
