NORMAN — Jakeb Snyder received a nice surprise during Oklahoma football’s team meeting on Wednesday morning.

The Bixby High School product and walk-on receiver for the Sooners received a $10,000 scholarship, courtesy of former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily’s foundation.

A prerecorded announcement video from Baker and Emily Mayfield was played in OU’s team meeting room. Cheers erupted as Baker Mayfield announced Snyder as the first-ever recipient of a Mayfield walk-on scholarship, which will continue in years to come. The Mayfields came up with the scholarship to help alleviate some of the financial strain walk-on players face.
