A benefits claimant has said that his Universal Credit payments were stopped for one strange reason.

Ryan-Jay Walsh has been unable to work since last November due to a medical issue.

The 30-year-old has been receiving Universal Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) since then.

He has undergone a number of surgeries and is awaiting a further operation.

The claimant said he usually receives about £1,300 on the ninth of the month.

But he started to panic when no pending transaction appeared by August 7, Manchester Evening News reports.

He later found out his payments has stopped after a stranger mistakenly used his National Insurance number when they started their new job.
