COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is calling on the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA to "rethink" their blackout restrictions that can make it harder for fans to watch their teams at home.
The House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Jordan, sent a letter to the four professional sports leagues, asking for a briefing on how each league participates in the sports broadcasting market.
The Sports Broadcasting Act, passed in 1961, gave the four leagues antitrust exemptions when it comes to televising games, which "permits sports leagues to prevent games from being broadcast 'within the home territory of a member club of the league on a day when such club is playing a game at home,'" according to the letter.
