WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wiley Magnet Middle School had more than one reason to celebrate Wednesday morning.

As students across Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools returned for the first day of class, Wiley marked a major milestone The school is celebrating 100 years of serving its community. Its slogan that reads: “Keeping it 100 since 1925.”

Parents and students began lining up as early as 6:15 a.m., eager to start the school year off strong. But the drop-off routine looked a little different this year.

With the district eliminating crossing guards due to budget cuts , Wiley Middle Principal Colin Tribby and school resource officers were stationed near the crosswalk to ensure students arrived safely. Tribby even walked several students across the street himself.
