SPRINGFIELD — Freddy Rodriguez spent much of his four years in high school caring for his ailing grandmother, and at the end of his senior year, he came up short on credits. But he didn’t quit, and on Tuesday he became the first in his family to earn a diploma.
Rodriguez attended all four years at Springfield Virtual High School, which made it easier for him to work as his grandmother’s full-time caregiver. But it meant he had some distractions and ended up needing to take English and Spanish in summer school.
