CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Following the success of “Superman,” Ohio is building momentum as a hot spot for film and television production. This week, the Ohio Department of Development awarded $46 million in tax credits to 27 projects set to be produced across the state.
The recipients include 11 feature films, four television miniseries, five full television series, four Broadway-style theatrical productions, two documentaries and one digital media project.
Several of those productions are headed for Northeast Ohio. Leading the way is a film called “Spain Thief,” which received more than $10.5 million, the largest single award in this round. Details are scarce — “Spain Thief” could be a working title — but based on the amount awarded, its local production budget could reach $35 million.
