First day of SC school canceled after tree knocks out power

GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. —

A Greenwood County, South Carolina, school canceled the first day of classes due to a tree falling on a power line.

On Wednesday, Greenwood Christian School announced on its Facebook page that a tree fell across Woodlawn Road taking out power lines and leaving Greenwood Christian without internet and necessary power needed for operations.

The head of school, Chris John said in the post, "We will communicate updates ASAP. No one was hurt - repeat - school will not open today."
