The filet mignon is a special cut of meat, so it makes sense there's a National Filet Mignon Day, celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 13.

If you've got the hunger for a filet, there's a few deals out there to mark the occasion. But why is the filet mignon – the name is French for a "dainty" slice of meat – special?
