A crash Wednesday morning on Route 22 in Northampton County trapped motorists on the highway and forced traffic to divert onto side roads.
Just after 11 a.m., a dump truck headed west overturned at mile 328.6 in Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania State Police report.
It struck the jersey barrier separating the west- and eastbound lanes, spilling asphalt onto both sides of the highway and shutting down the highway entirely, Trooper Nathan Branosky said.
Authorities diverted Route 22 West traffic onto Route 191 and eastbound traffic onto Route 512, Branosky said.
The driver of the truck was taken to an area hospital, according to police.
A Northampton County 911 emergency dispatch supervisor also reports a spill of about 100 gallons of diesel fuel as a result of the crash.
