SARTELL, Minn. — Sartell Police closed Riverside Avenue on Wednesday so that a dive team could safely go into the Mississippi River.
In an update Wednesday, the Stearns County Sheriff's Office stated that a fisherman contacted authorities on Sunday when he detected a car in the Mississippi River on his sonar finder.
In a Facebook post , Sartell Public Safety shared that it was partnering with the Stearns County Sheriff's Office to conduct a dive at the location Wednesday near DeZURIK, Inc. The bike path near Riverside Avenue will also be shut down.
The sheriff's office shared that a dive team located the car Wednesday morning and it appears the car is from the 1960s. Officials requested a local tow company to help remove the car, though it is still in the river as of Wednesday morning.
