MINNEAPOLIS — A woman accused of throwing a tarantula at her former Airbnb guest during a dispute has filed a $28 million lawsuit, alleging a campaign to derail her senate aspirations.

In the lawsuit, Marisa Simonetti names the renter, Hennepin County, and the city of Edina and its police officers as defendants. The legal action stems from an incident on June 21, 2024, when Simonetti allegedly threw the spider and other items at her renter during a dispute inside the Edina home they shared. The Airbnb guest told police Simonetti was trespassing in her area of the residence, while Simonetti insisted that the woman was a squatter who was renting from her, and refused to leave when their agreement was up.
