MINNEAPOLIS — After spending nearly a month in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, a 26-year-old nursing mother of two was released Wednesday afternoon following an order from a federal district judge.

In the first moments of her release, Antonia Aguilar Maldonado was focused solely on reuniting with her 2 and 6-year-old sons. "I'm going to hug them," she said as she stood in front of the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. "I'm very happy. I'm so grateful."

Aguilar Maldonado, who recently turned 26 while in custody, was arrested by ICE agents on July 17 as she was on her way to work. Originally from El Salvador, she had entered the United States in 2016 unaccompanied and without documentation at the age of 16, according to court records.
