Air Quality Alerts issued as wildfire smoke and unhealthy amounts of ozone impact Maine

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Alert for communities along the Coast, Interior, and High Elevation areas on Wednesday. This Air Quality Alert will last until 12:00am Thursday.

Meteorologists at the Maine DEP say ‘Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups’ levels of ozone are expected along the Coast, Interior, and in High Elevation areas throughout the rest of Wednesday. Brisk south winds will help push ozone further inland than usual.

‘Moderate’ levels of ozone are expected in the Western Mountains and Northern regions of Maine throughout the rest of Wednesday.

Improvements in ozone levels are expected on Thursday, with ‘Good’ levels of ozone expected across the entire state.
