GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — The Township Council honored firefighters and other first responders Tuesday for pulling an unconscious man from a burning mobile home and saving his life July 19.

"It was a fire call that came in, and when the firefighters arrived, they performed some truly heroic acts," Mayor Anthony Coppola said.

At 7:53 a.m. July 19, the Pomona and Germania volunteer fire companies were dispatched to a mobile home park on Park Avenue, Pomona Chief Gary S. Dooner Jr. said.

"This type of structure poses significant dangers typical of mobile homes — lightweight construction, narrow spaces, limited emergency exits, and in this case, it was further complicated by heavy modifications and a metal roof that traps the heat inside," Dooner said.
