SEATAC, Wash. — The Department of Corrections and local law enforcement are searching for an inmate who escaped while being transported through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on Tuesday night.

John Nino, 20, broke free shortly before 8 p.m., officials said. An airport spokesperson said Nino was on the fourth floor of the garage when he escaped from two DOC officers. He reportedly ran to the light rail, crossed the pedestrian bridge and ran toward Highway 99.

He was wearing a red coat and gray sweatpants. He is described as 6-foot-2 and weighing about 154 pounds.

Authorities say the man was arrested several days ago in New Mexico for a parole violation and was in the process of transferring into Washington corrections' custody when he escaped. Nino was previously convicted of
